jm-coetzee _disgrace.jpg — I made the mistake of reading this novel while travelling with my wife around South Africa. It made me cautious and wary, it scared me so much. This is an author who is unafraid to tackle the painful mundanity of life, its pointlessness. He will bend the novel’s form to create devastating effects on the reader and he never lets us away with a trite, saccharine ending.
